What is a "Government Scam" Robocall?

Scammers who call people posing as a government agency are commonly referred to as "government scams". There are many different agencies these callers pose as, but they most commonly pose as the IRS. They say you have not paid your taxes and are wanted by the government. These calls can be very convincing, as they will usually have your name and home address, but they will request your social security number and sometimes even your bank information. There are other government agencies these scammers pose as, such as your local police department, the Social Security Administration, and Medicare. When people pose as government agencies, they are violating the law and should be reported immediately. If you are unsure if you are truly talking to a legitimate government agency or not, you can hang up the call, and call the real agency. Let them know you received a call asking for your information, and you want to be sure it wasn’t a scam call. The agency will be able to tell you if you are actually in trouble with them or not.

they left a voicemail on my grandmother's phone telling her she had a package that couldn't be delivered due to incomplete address. she wasn't expecting anything because she never orders anything. they left a tracking number. i called them back for her worried it would be a scam since she is known to pick up scam calls and they told me where to pick it up and that i needed a license that matches the address. still skeptical, I asked them for the company that sent the package and called them, they confirmed that they had sent a package. i guess my uncle ordered something for her. As odd as it seems the number is not a scam.

This is a real fedex number so dont ignore it if your actually expecting a package, left automated message with my tracking number directing me to their website(real one, not phishing website) in order to pay duties for package before it arrives. Im sure sometimes there are scammers spoofing number but for me in this case it was legit.

Be careful! I see some reporting that this is a valid call. You have to understand that the scammer does use FedEx Caller ID, so if you are legitimately expecting a FedEx delivery, then, of course, the number will be valid. Otherwise, it is a scam. Like someone said, don't take candies from strangers.:-)

Yes, I received a call from 800-463-3339 who said they are FedEx and have a package for me and I owe for taxes and other. Now, I don't do business on the phone, so I checked my email tracking for FedEx and there was no notification of monies owing on any shipment. So, then I looked up the phone number and sure enough, it was a scam. The scammers have a tit on FedEx's customer base. Insidious!

I, too, just received the same call from "FedEx". Unbelievable! It even came up on my caller ID as FedEx but the return number was 800-463-8339 :(

Received call from this number, left a message for me about my FedEx package. So it was the real FedEx, HOWEVER, I tried calling the number back and it was some dumb looping questions about Medicare, Medicade, If I'm over 50 I can get a $5 gift card Blah blah blah. So I don't know what's up with that.

Got a call from this number. It was FedEx letting my know that my package was delivered. I called my husband at home and the package was indeed delivered.
However, I am aware that scammers will use a legitimate number and make it seem like they work for the company who's number they are using to make the call from. Slicksters...

Fed ex wanted me to pay the customs fees. I was hoping they would just leave it at the door and I wouldn't have to pay :(. Charging extra money for their processing fee too..

This is a scam. The number showing up on your phone is actually the fedex customer support number, but the person calling is not from fedex and is not actually calling from that number. They leave a harmless message with literally no explanation as to whey they are calling and then ask you to call this number - which again, is a real fedex number - but you will not be able to speak to the person who called, because he doesn't work at fedex. He is a scammer hoping that, because he left a voicemail on a number identified as fedex, that when he calls you back, you will pick it up. That's when he'll start attempting to actively scam you by either phishing for personal info or telling you they can't deliver a package until you pay $.
