This number is from an Active Health Management service center. They have call centers in VA, OH, IL, & CO, but the nurse that calls you could be *anywhere*... I think my nurse is actually in Texas, but the calls come from this Virginia number.
AHM is a 3rd-party organization hired by insurance companies to find ways to reduce how much money is paid out to the insured (i.e. me, probably you). They do this in good ways (e.g. coach you to lose ten pounds now and you'll have fewer heart and/or knee problems in 20 years) and in not-so-good ways (such as second-guessing the medications and procedures prescribed by your doctor).
Most insurance companies give you a 'choice' whether or not to participate: choose to participate, and a nurse will call you once every 90 days to set goals (lose weight, eat better, exercise more) and evaluate your progress; choose NOT to participate, and the insurance company chooses to drop 80% of your benefits. (A business practice first popularized by the Mafia, I believe.) But it IS your "choice".
