Straight up scam.
Inarticulate person called and left message today. Call was placed from Janesville, WI (608-371-6666), a pitch was left on my voice mail, and I given the number 800-514-0427 to call if I was interested. I just refinanced not too long ago, and given how inarticulate the caller sounded, I am viewing this as a scam call. I've notified the PennyMac folks.
Received a call from this number 800-514-0427 and was told they were from PennyMac and they had been reviewing my mortgage loan and they had a savings offer for me. I asked if they were PennyMac or a subsidary another loan company and they confirmed they were from PennyMac. I allowed them to transfer me to a loan agent who immediately told me the call was being recorded. I stated that I was also recording on my end. The man on the other end of the phone told me I could not record the call. I told him if this concerned my mortgage and my loan being changed in any way that I would record the call. He again told me I could not record the call and got mad and hung up on me. So I'm assuming this is a scam since they will not allow me to record the call. So you can see if they will allow you to record their call or not. Good luck. I think I will wait until Monday and call PennyMac myself and ask why they're calling to refinance an already very low interest rate.
