I was driving on the highway today when this toll-free # 800-621-8801 dialed in with an automatic prompt claiming to be Travelers Insurance and notifying me that my $1,325 payment due on February 20th hadn't been received and was now past due. It prompted me to press a key to continue to automatic payment via credit card to bring my account current. Since I'd previously had Travelers Insurance, a red flag didn't immediately come up; that I'd also just refinanced my mortgage, I thought the prior bank might not have paid off the homeowner's policy with monies they'd been escrowing each month, or the new mortgage bank might have incorrectly entered in my insurance account info into their system. Just to be safe, I hung up and called my insurance broker who said we were fully paid up --- not with Travelers. Upon further investigation, I determined this is a clever and devious SCAM. The SCAMMERS likely paid $1 for my cell # from a database hacked/stolen/sold to them showing Travelers was a prior vendor... regardless, they almost stole $1,325 from me, and are using this scheme to defraud many others. BEWARE!!!
automated call: Claims they are Travelers and the business insurance is past due at almost $3K and wanted us to make payment over the phone....
