Scam...tell you your vehicle has a safety recall. You then wait for them to tell you that everything is functioning fine with your vehicle. After that, they try and sell an extended warranty.

They called my cell phone while I was at work. Caller ID showed a different number than the one they asked me to call. 800 918 2911 was that number. I've reported both to the Do Not Call registry as my phone is on the list.

Got a voicemail from them (funny I didn't miss a call somehow) and they said they were calling about a potential safety recall on my "current registered vehicle" and to call them back for more information, at no cost to me.
First, recalls are mailed to you, and they don't call.
Second, it doesn't cost me anything to find out recalls anyway so that is a moot point.
Third, don't fall victim to these scammers. I read below that they try to get you to call you back so they can sell you a warranty. I have had these companies call me incessantly a while ago about my other car that still has a warranty for a LONG time. I don't understand the point of these calls- do they get jollies out of annoying people?

They called but didn't leave a message. I called the number back and they answered "recall center". I asked them what this was about, they knew my name and car make and model. They claimed there was a recall on my vehicle. I told them Ford doesn't call customers and sends paperwork. She got snotty and said something about the millions of recalls on airbags, I said is this for the airbag, she said she didn't know. I told her that should would know if she was legit. She hung up on me.

Its a company using the name "National Recall Center" to get you to call them back to potentially talk you into extending your cars warranty, that's all. They said initially there's a "potential recall on my vehicle"...well if it's only a "potential" recall why are you calling me? Oh yeah, cuz your not legit!... because it's a great way to get you to call you back to tell you your car's manufacture warranty is up (though mine isn't because it's covered for 7 yrs) and try to get you to buy a warrant through them. Don't waste your time calling them back.

They are using this tactic to get you to call and sell you an extended warranty. Scumbags.

My wife received a call and thought it was legit. I called them back at 800-705-5388 and they said they could look up my case with my phone number. I gave them my wife's number and they couldn't pull up the "recall information." I then asked why the manufacturer wouldn't call me directly and she said that they work with the manufacturer. It seemed shady so I told her that I would contact the manufacturer directly to find out if there is a recall. She said "okay". Probably one of the "extended warranty" companies trying a new method for contacting annoyed consumers.

Got call from 800-650-5912 advising possible recall. Advised to call 800-705-5388
Called the original number a female answered. Said I did not have a recall but my warranty had run out. Told them their number possible scam or telemarketing and asked to remove my number from call list.

Spoofed number goes straight to voicemail. Message is that there is an important safety recall for my current registered vehicle. Totally bogus, since manufacturers contact you directly in such cases.

Makes more sense now that I never missed a call but suddenly had a voicemail. That makes it more obvious to me that it was a scam the second I listened to the VM!
