What are "Government Scams"?

Robocalls that pose to be calls from a legitimate government agency are referred to as "government scams". There are many different forms of these government scams, but the most common is an IRS scam call. This is where a scammer calls you and tells you that you haven’t paid your taxes and there is a warrant out for your arrest. During this call, they will ask you for your social security number, bank account information, home address, and much more. These calls can be very convincing, as they already know your name and possibly know where you work, but they should not be trusted. There are other government scams such as Social Security Administration calls, medicare calls, and police department calls. All of these scam calls will consist of the caller asking for your information and threaten that you will face consequences if you do not give them what they want. These types of calls are illegal, and they should be reported to the police immediately. The best way to avoid becoming a victim to these callers is by hanging up and calling the agency the caller claimed to be apart of. Simply end the call, and call the number of the real agency to see if they truly are needing your information.

Received an e-mail from First National Collection Bureau, Inc. saying I owed certain amount of money on Capital One credit card, which I did not. Called the number and they answered as a nursing station and immediately tried to tell me I could get a medical bracelet free LOL. I hung up. This needs to stop because I'm sure there are some who would believe this. The number they gave was 1-800-824-6169.

Received a call from 800-824-6191 to my cell phone, asking for a name I haven't legally had in over 25 years! My credit is in Great standing, I have monitored it for 19-22 years. I told the lady there was no-one by that name, she said she would remove the number (SURE she will)

They called my office with a recorded message asking for a "David" to press one or call 800-824-6191. I press 1 and this woman who speaks very fast stated her name and "how may I help you". She did not state who she was with, and she had no idea why I was calling. I advised her that her company called me asking for a David and that he does not work here, she said she would remove the number then hung up on me.

These guys are bottom feeding class of collection agencies. The buy old or statute barred debt and using harassment tactics try to collect 10 to 30 cents on the dollar. Of course once you pay anything the debt clock resets to day 1 and then their ambulance chasing lawyers will sue for the rest. The best you can do is contact your state authorities (don't waste time with the feds, they won't do anything but collect data and publish reports) to go after them.

I received a call several weeks ago saying they were a collection agency and wanted me to make payments I told them I am not working and have not worked since 2010. I received a letter in mail 2 days ago from same company First National Collection Bureau, Inc. It says I owe Citibank (South Dakota), N.A./FRED MEYER They have a original Account no. Ref# Letter states this is a delinquent account and they are a collection agency. It says 70% discount payable in 6 monthly payments pay by check over phone or credit card. Then it says .(THE LAW LIMITS HOW LONG YOU CAN BE SUED ON A DEBT. BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF YOUR DEBT, LVNV FUNDING LLC WILL NOT SUE YOU FOR IT, AND LVNV FUNDING LLC WILL NOT REPORT IT TO ANY CREDIT REPORTING AGENCY. This account was way back 14 years ago. they even give a web site. I never received anything from Citibank saying I owed because I paid it off 14 years ago. So be careful people it is not real because it has 2 addresses 1 in NV 1 in PA .

They have called 5 times within 10 minutes. I have answered it twice and no one will talk just hearing heavy breathing. They have left one message, but it was a recording, but only half a recording. Didn't hear who they are wanting..VERY annoying

This "company" keeps calling with some ridiculous name even after I have politely told them it is not a correct number. They are aware that this number is listed on the internet as a possible scam number...

This number has been calling my home for the past couple of days and I've been letting the answering machine take the call since I don't recognize the number. The first couple of times they've called (July 5th, July 7th, & July 8th) the caller ID said 'Unknown' and the number was 210-787-1735, but today they called and the Caller Id said something completely different. It said 'Name Not Found' and the number was 112-107-871-735. It's obvious that they're "spoofing" their number on the Caller Id when they call because the recording they leave always has 1-800-824-6191 in it. They left a message saying, "If you are not this person press the 2 key now. If you are this person press the 1 key now. Or you can call 1-800-824-6191 at your earliest convenience. Thank you." The recording was a woman with an English accent. She never said WHO she was calling for ,all she said was "this person", and she never said what company she was calling from. If you ask me, this has SCAM written ALL OVER IT!!!

THIS COMPANY IS IN TROUBLE WITH THE GOVERNMENT DUE TO THEIR DECEPTIVE PRACTICES AND NUMEROUS CONSUMER COMPLAINTS.

Don't bother to talk to these losers, most of whom are unemployable at any other job. Don't even bother to challenge their claims. If you do, you'll never hear the end of it.

These are real bottom feeders who try to collect on old debt, much of it past the statute of limitations. They are perfectly aware of this, but are looking for just the right suckers to coerce into paying anyway. Of course, if you make the mistake of talking to them and agree that that old debt of yours did exist at one time, this nevertheless starts the time clock all over again and... voila!... you owe the debt again.

SOMETIMES YOU'LL SEE POSTS FROM THEM ON MESSAGE BOARDS SUCH AS THIS. Very easy to spot. You know... all those "helpful" posts telling you the names of exactly who at that company to call, etc. Remember that they are paid on a commission basis.
