This number called on behalf of my credit union to verify transactions- I have verified this with my credit union. It's a bit annoying at times, but did alert us to a fraud in action that took 4400$ from our account- they put a stop on the card and started the process with our credit union to have the money returned and info submitted for a fraud report. Just had them call to verify an online purchase- I'll take the occasional annoyance now that we've had my wife's card skimmed.

You should probably do what I did: I checked my account online and saw unauthorized purchases. Then I called my bank directly and said, "Do you work with the fraud agency that left this phone number?" My bank said that they did, and they transferred me over to the agency. So I never called this agency directly--my bank put me through. That's how I know it's legit. They canceled the card, and said someone in Illinois had made a fake credit card.

So if you're worried it's a scam, just call your bank/credit card directly and make sure that this agency is legit first.

What's weird is that the week before, I was getting scam calls--someone would call early in the morning and hang up. When I looked up the number online at places like this, people said these phone calls were from scammers. I think someone had got my information and was testing my phone number before they made the fake card. So if I get those calls again, I'll keep extra close tabs on my credit cards for a few days.

They did ask a lot of question but no more that last four of ssn and last name. They verifed purchases from 5 days ago and 3 days ago for 3 different purchases all together. I don't think it was a scam with the information that they knew but I will be checking my bank often and will let you know if anything changes. I did make 2 purchases on the same day to the same grocery store so how would they really know that. I also place a classified ad two days later.

This is a phishing attempt..

Hang up and call your bank directly. Don't give out any personal info.

They call every now and then to make sure it is me that bought something on my credit card. It is real.

I've seen posts saying this is legit and posts saying it is not. All I can do is convey my experience. This# called me about an hour ago and left an automated message that said, "This is the fraud alert dept at (name of bank). We are calling because we have detected suspicious activity on your account. Please call us back at 1-800-437-9292. As soon as I got a chance (about 30 min after call), I got online and checked my account. Nothing strange there. I then called the regular number for my bank (the number I KNOW is correct) The lady I spoke with checked the notes on my account and found NOTHING about the fraud dept calling nor about any suspicious transactions on my account. She also checked both phone numbers (the one that called and the one it said to call back) and could find neither of them in their directory. She said as far as she is concerned, it is a scam call. She said if their fraud dept had called there would 1) be notes on the account as to which transactions were flagged suspicious; 2) notes that someone in their fraud dept had called; 3) a real person would have called, not an automated system. Also many of the people I've seen commenting that it was legit have said they had calls about their visa card and they have accounts with credit unions. Neither applies to me.

I'm not calling them back. I talked with my bank and my bank said they can't find anything. She also said if there was a legit concern, they would have already locked my account and I'd have to call in to get them to release the lock and that hadn't occurred.

That is my story.....take it for what you will and make your own decision.

It's legit, just checking some odd transactions I made to make sure my card wasn't stolen.

I actually appriciate this a lot. It's a great idea!

This phone number is part of a scam! If you call it back, they number tells you, "Thank you for calling your card service center. For English, press 1. For Spanish, press 2. We have located your XXXX Card/Credit Card Account. For Security Purposes, please enter the last 4 of your Social Security Number.” All of this phone call is automated.

I was called by these folks, and it is NOT a scam. I declined to give them the last four digits of my SSN, but they were happy to accept my name and address as establishing the identity of the callee. It is a fraud-protection service hired by credit card issuers to detect unusual transactions. Mine was an intercontinental magazine subscription for $120, and they wanted to make sure I approved. THEY provided all the information about the situation, and asked me to call my bank if I chose not to believe them.
Repeat: this is a valid business, not a scam or phisher.

It is totally not a scam. I had my card stolen/lost w/o my knowledge and they detected two transactions of 20 and 40 cents! They called me because it looked suspicious and probably saves me a ton of hassle. They said transactions like this are typical of someone testing the card out. They locked my card and are sending me a new one. This is a legit transaction monitoring company that your bank will verify for you.
