Here is a tip for everyone out there also protected by the Federal Do Not Call list. (Make sure you are current - we just listed our numbers again including all mobile numbers while they are covered for most instances here in Illinois.) I agree with the person above - don't hang up, ignore the calls, yell, or make threats. This worked tonight:
I FINALLY got "Jeff" to answer ME when I picked up my phone to this number. I let him give me his lame script about my Mastercard, and how "nothing is wrong with my account, Ma'am." He wanted to send me free giftcards for Wal-Mart and for free gasoline and other potential offers.
I casually asked him who he represented and like I suspected, he said Financial Education of America. I asked what kind of services could they offer someone like me? (I didn't want him to be spooked and hang up before I hit him hard.) He said they had great ways for me to invest and save money, blah, blah, blah. I then asked how he obtained my Mastercard information (i.e. I use this as a Debit/Mastercard from my bank - it isn't an actual credit card from Mastercard Corp.) and he said I made a purchase from one of his partners and I am their preferred client.
I then said, "Well, Jeff, you need to know that I have taken down your name, the name of your company, phone number, and all of the times and dates you've called. Now I am reporting you for consumer fraud and filing a complaint with the FTC for violating the Federal Do Not Call Registry because we're on that list as well. I don't expect to hear from you again. Thank you."
Good Luck!
These people continually call even though I repeatedly say that I am not interested and want them to take my name off the list. This has gone on for two months now! Even more frightening, those who call actually spell out my VISA number!
