Has a wrong number but won't stop calling could be spam
This caller continues to call my number stating there from the Bank of Albuquerque. They continue to do this asking for the same person that clearly has no association with my telephone number.
A lady came to my door today and knocked. When I answered she handed me a plain white envelope with the word confidential hand written on it. She said it to me and said it was my mortgage company. Once the envelope was in my hand she pulled out a camera and said she needed to take a picture of me with the envelope. Before I could say anything she snapped her picture and walked away. Inside the envelope was a chopped up piece of paper stating: "Dear Borrower, URGENT NOTICE: Please contact your mortgage servicer immediately at: 1-800-947-7067 (handwritten number) Thank you. Below was another handwritten number. I later called the number using *67. There was a recording that listed several banks and it said that they were there to help me. Finally I got a person who stated they worked for several banks and began to list them (one is my mortgage company). I gave her the number written on the paper and she could not find anything. I had already checked and it was not the same as my mortgage account number. She said she could search for my account if I would give her my number. Of course, I explained how the lady came to my house, etc. and told her this had all the signs of a scam. It was very strange. Smells fishy to me!
I lady today called me at work and said she was from the Bank of Oklahoma and wanted to verify the last four digits of my social and/or my birthday so she could deliver a very important message to me. I wouldn't do it and she said to call this number to get the message. That is when I looked it up. The bank has never called me before.
I was hit with the "scam" too. The note was taped on my front door of my home (not apartment). On one side of the note states: "CONFIDENTIAL" and back side states: "Dear Borrower: URGENT NOTICE - Please contact your mortgage servicer immediately at: (800) 947-7067. Thank you." When I called: "*67-800-947-7067" a recording says "Then number you dialed is not in service ...." I intend to notify my local "Neighborhood Association" so neighbors know it's a scam. Also, I intend to let the Attorney General for the State of New Mexico know of this scam. I have a sign on my window and door states "No Trespassing" so these people are in violation of local laws and they should be prosecuted just like everybody else who breaks laws. I'm in Albuquerque, NM.
