Got the same type of call from individual with thick Indian accent claiming he's from microsoft support. Calls himself Albert Jones. Claimed had a computer infected with virus and they would fix online. All of it pretty suspicious. Watch out!
Same thing as everyone else...random call, blocked number, guy with strong Indian accent, said he's calling from Microsoft Tech Support and they've been getting continuous error messages from my computer. [sketchy!] I asked him which computer, and he was surprised that I work off of multiple computers. [super sketchy!] He said turn on either one, it doesn't matter which b/c they're registered the same, & I told him no they're not, how am I supposed to know which one is the one with errors. He seemed really flustered, kept telling me to turn on either one, it doesn't matter which one. [seriously??] I told him I was too busy to do it right now, and the computers are off anyway, and no I'm not going to turn them on right now, I'll call them back later. In the end it was like pulling teeth, but finally he gave me this number, and the name "Daniel Smith." [he must think I'm an idiot.]
Just got the phone call from a blocked number (01619) stated that he (Jack Tomson or whatever his name is) was calling from Microsoft Technical Department about error messages sent from my computer. Call was so static. Scammer had a very thick Indian accent as well. Asked him several questions about which computer it was since I had 7 at home but he could not say which one it was. Asked him to send the process to remove some sort of virus that was on my computer via email since he should have my email details if he was able to call me. Said that the process can only be done online over the phone. All that pretty much raised red flags so I played along with it. Got the number to call them back since I was at work, 801-477-5511. Googled it. Found this page. Total scam. Most likely they'll be leading to you a website to download some sort of trojan or virus. It is stupid that a company (Microsoft if it was real) that large can't send you an email to tell you the process. Also, blocked caller ID from businesses is ILLEGAL! Another red flag.
Straight up, SCAM!
Caller with heavy Indian accent and heavy static on the line.could not see what line he was calling from but when I asked for a number where we could reach him later if we wanted he gave me 801-477-5511. Had "scam" written over it from the beginning but I was curious to see how it would play out. Claimed to be Microsoft Tech Support and that they were getting lots of error messages from my computer and they think i have a virus and that my computer could be in danger. wanted me to go in with them walking me through how to fix it. Connection so bad he had to call me back. I asked what kind of computer I have and he said he could not tell; asked what version of Microsoft they show I have and it was wrong; he sounded surprised. I asked who I could call at Microsoft that would authenticate; he talked a run around. Asked for their Federal Tax ID, which is not considered sensitive and often given our by businesses for identification; run around again. I asked if they would remotely access my computer to fix it and he said no; I idn't believe it for a minute. At times, his voice was frantic, rising in pitch as he repeated himself several times ("this is not a scam, ma'am, this is not a scam, it's not a scam"), speaking right over me (the customer) multiple times. I asked him who I should report the scam to; obviously, that went no where. He offered to have me speak to his super, who responded same way to above questions. I asked for a website I could go to and he ran around again. I finally got bored with it, told him I was reporting it as a scam ("it's not a scam, ma'am!") and to never call my number again. I believe their intention was to remotely access our computer.
Scammer from india saying he was "eric joles"...really Eric Joles from Utah with an Indian Accept from microsoft who knows my windows computer has a virus but cant tell me which of my computers it is....scam scam scam - recognised it straight away, i like to keep these idiots on the phone for as long as possible and ask them all sorts of unreasonable questions, put them on hold, give them the run around and eventually they hang up.
