Mona!
Happy New Year! My name is Dr. Austin Floyd. I simply want to share five resources and tips to encourage you stay politically engaged in our county this year:
#1 Download the South Carolina Legislative App- Stay informed about committee hearings and agendas for various legislative committees by visiting scstatehouse.gov/mobileappinfo.php
#2 Know Your Representative- Effective advocacy begins with knowing who to call. Use this "Find Your Legislator" tool to identify your Senator or Representative scstatehouse.gov/legislatorssearch.php
#3 Engage Key Issues- Reflect on the South Carolina you want to see in 2, 5, or 10 years. Politics shapes "who gets what, when, and how." Topics like school choice, tax and judicial reform, diversifying our energy, infrastructure investments, restructuring education, and DEI are all on the table. Let's approach politics and progress with thorough research, respectful engagement, & collaborative effort.
#4 Stay Involved in Local Politics
Local government impacts your daily life more than state or national politics. Check the schedules below for your next city or county council meeting and consider speaking during the public commenting period.
Sumter County Council- sumtercountysc.org/our_council/council_documents/agenda_s_minutes.php

#5 Stay Prayed Up
As Tye Tribbett says, "We Gon' Be Alright." Progress starts with us. Pray, prepare, and show up as your best self to contribute to solutions.
Wishing you peace, purpose, and progress in 2025.
Dr. Austin Floyd
