Beware of Islamic Jihad on Your Finances.
There are people in Middle East who resent the USA on account of our involvement in that region of the world. Some of these people may work for the Intelligence Agencies of various Middle Eastern countries. Others are sympathetic to ISIS. They have created numerous robo scams. Sometimes they will call pretending to represent Microsoft and tell you a server has detected viruses on your computer and they will fix it for a fee if you let them have access to your computer. They may actually do it but they are really after Personal Identifiable Information on your hard drive (PII) and they are not part of Microsoft. Sometimes they will call pretending to work for a credit card fraud protection agency, or posing as a financial agency that can lower your credit card interest rates. Sometimes they will call pretending to help you straighten out college loan problems, or as a medical bill collection agency trying to clear up medical bills. Sometimes they will tell you that you have been granted the payday loan you requested; even though you did not request one. They want you to call the number they left on your answering system so they can tell you they will clear up the problem if you just give them some information (Personal Identifiable Information). Often they will call from restricted numbers. They are part of the same network and not just a bunch of independent scammers. One evidence that they are not just a bunch of unrelated independent scammers is that if you read the on-line comments on the “who called me web page” you find that some people described one kind of scam and other people describe a different kind of scam from the same number. Additionally, how would a bunch of unrelated scammers all have your phone number and call you several times every day? You will usually be able to recognize them because they will have an Urdu or Arabic accent regardless of the area code of the originating phone call or the variety of the scam. The calls are actually originating in foreign countries. Their goal is both harassment and financial theft. Do not give them anything. Eventually they will raid your bank accounts if you give them PII.
