City police have alerted the public of a likely scam which seeks to obtain money for disabled or injured police officers.
A group claiming that purpose has made calls to Pekin-area residents from a number identified as 815-265-6149, the Police Department said Wednesday. The caller immediately seeks to end the call when pressed with questions.
The department knows of no legitimate organization authorized to seek donations for its stated purpose.
"It is a sad time when so many police officers are being killed and injured in the line of duty, that a group (tries) to profit off of tragedy," said Public Information Officer Mike Eeten.
