Had the same experience as everyone on this thread. Caller ID said Gary Hendricks but he said his name was Jim. Seemed like a normal conversation at first but he got progressively ruder until he was yelling. I was patient and kind until I wished him luck on his journey and hung up. Why is he doing this to so many advisors? Does anyone have answers?

Called in and was transferred to me (IAR). Was extremely belligerent and aggressive refusing to let me speak most of the time and rambling about China, inflation, GM and every other loosely connected financial topic under the sun. Eventually decided we didn't know enough and weren't confident enough to work with and hung up. Called himself "Dave" this time.

This guy... I think he called me 20 years ago and today I got the call and it was the same thing. I'm a financial advisor and this guy got me on the phone around 2005, and I had very similar experiences to the rest of you all - "You seem like you have no idea what you're talking about. You don't fight the Fed!" Finally after more than half an hour, I got off the phone. But I spent the last 2 decades extremely perplexed why he would call just to pick a berate me, and confused about exactly what had happened. I have been racking my brain for what his angle might have been - Does he get paid for this? Is he recruiting? Is it a fetish of his? 20 years go by.
Today, one of my employees answers the phone with a caller ID of Gary Hendricks. I was with a real client at the time so I didn't pay any attention. Later on, my assistant comes into my office and shuts the door and asked me if I had ever been bullied over the phone. (20 years ago came to mind, but I didn't let on immediately.) Assistant explained what had happened. Gary opened the call saying he is a high-net-worth client with Fidelity but they aren't really providing the level of service that he wants. My assistant goes to explain that we seek to provide a more personal approach than many larger firms can offer, and begins explaining how some of our services work. Gary immediately begins to rip into my assistant for sounding like an amateur who has no idea what they are talking about - he even went so far as to say "You are making your company look stupid and you sound like you're fresh out of high school." At this point worlds are colliding in my head - this sounded awfully similar to what once happened to me. Is this same low life really still doing this 20 years later?
I looked up the phone number which is when I found this page and realized many have had the same conversations with this guy. I picked up the phone and called him back to ask why he does this. No answer, full voicemail. 2 hours later he calls me back!! I answered and immediately ripped into him for what he does and he almost immediately hung up. What a miserable coward and waste of everyone's time and attention.

Caller ID: Gary Hendricks 818-795-5590, gave name as Phil. Wanted to know how much the fees we charge for services. Did not want to make an appointment, said he just needed the fees amount. I told him that we need to make an appointment, the FA was busy. He said no thanks, doesn't need an appointment and hung up.

Gary called me and said he was considering moving some money out of his current brokerage into another firm. He was very disrespectful and belligerent as I was trying to give him more information and understand what he was looking for. After seeing the thread of multiple times he has done this, I feel silly for not just hanging up on him before spending an hour with him on the phone.

Caller ID said Gary Hendricks. Asked if he were to open an account with us, how does the advisor get paid. I replied that he would have to speak with the financial advisor about that and he's on vacation. As I offered to take a message, he hung up on me.

Now I see there have been numerous spam-type calls over the years from this number/person.

This pranker caller said he was looking for an advisor, he asked me about my firm's size, he said he had never heard of us and then told me his background information. When I asked about his accounts, he got very defensive and wouldn't tell me and then just said he had spoken with other advisors who just knew this information. I said this didn't feel like a good fit and wished him the best and hung up. This is the second time he has reached out to our firm. He has gone by "Jim" and "David" in the past. The called ID said, "Walter Sawelenko."

Called, said his name was Steve, but caller Id said Walter Sawelenko. Was super reluctant to give any information, but not belligerent as others have said. He wanted to know how big our firm was, but had previously said he had looked us up on the web. I told him, that if he had looked us up, he would know. He didn't have anything else to really say. But super creepy, just the way he asked questions.

This caller said his father had recently passed away and the estate was going through probate. He wanted to know about investment options and fees for investing his inheritance. After explaining various programs...fee based, trustee services and traditional brokerage the caller became suddenly irate and started complaining about various geopolitical things and taxes..totally unrelated to investing. I stayed on the line and listened to his rant. Said I couldn’t help him with any of that, but was here to answer his financial planning questions. He then name called me and continued on with his with his irrational rant. I finally asked him if this was some kind of prank? He then asked me why I was crying....very strange guy. I ended the call right there..not soon enough!

I have had calls from this number and name for years in another office. He will constantly just say he has a simple question about Fees in a Fee Based Managed Account. Of course he says he doesn't want anyone calling him. I told him it will be hard to assist and help if we aren't able to call him.. I wished him a "Good Day"

Caller claimed his name was Gary, but caller ID comes up Walter Sawelenko, who died on 1/17/17. He asked to speak to a financial advisor, and since our advisors were in client meetings, I took his call. Worst mistake ever. Asked about what we do and what our investment philosophy was, and I didn't get much of an answer out before he said that was not his questions. Wanted to know how advisors got paid, and when I told him about managed accounts, he said, "That's just a fancy way to say you make money off people." WTF? Asked about the credentials of our advisors, and when I started to list their designations and educational background, he said, "That doesn't impress me at all." Could not get this slimeball off the phone, and couldn't give any answer that he didn't ridicule. If this winner calls you, do yourself a favor and just don't answer the call. He is seriously disturbed.

Caller would not give his name and was as rude as one can possibly be. If you want to be sworn at then answer the call and talk to this person. Otherwise let it go to voice mail!

I am also a financial advisor and he called my number and asked about retiring and if I could help him. Was very argumentative. Kept asking the same questions and then telling me how useless my information was. Very rude and insulting the whole time. Nothing I could say was okay, he found a way to criticize it. Not sure why this guy gets off on harassing people. Must be a sad miserable life he leads if this is how he gets his jollies. What a loser. If he calls you, just hang up.

Caller from the above # called... caller ID had one name (Gary Hendrick), the caller gave another name (Randy) but was very reluctant to do so... he said he would like to talk to someone about rolling a 401k over into an IRA. I transferred the message to one of our advisors. The caller had many questions about the new DOL rule & how it would affect the advisor in handling a rollover request. The advisor began explaining the new DOL ruling, being a fiduciary, the need for education on the pros & cons related to fees of rolling over or keeping in a 401k and leaving the unsolicited decision to the individual after being educated as to whether they would like to rollover or remain in the 401k. The caller began reciting information about different funds to be used in IRA's and said if everyone did not use those funds they would be stupid and became very rude and combative with the advisor. The advisor asked for the caller's name again and the caller this time refused to give the advisor his name and became more belligerent to the point the advisor wished him well and ended the call. Not sure what the caller's purpose was; however, the name & number on the caller id was traceable to a similar area code and city as a registered advisor by the same name as well as other sites recently mentioning odd calls, such as this site and the comment on 5/27/17. (The phone # & caller ID being very similar to a registered advisor with the same name and same work address area code seemed odd, but we do not know for certain if they are one and the same or not!) Call and purpose of the call was very strange.....at best!

He called... caller ID has one name, he gave another name but was very reluctant to do so... he asked to speak to a financial advisor. When I offered to put him through to one's voicemail so that thhe could leave a personal message for them to return the call, he hung up on me abruptly. Must be some sort of sales call... just not sure what.
