I was given this # to contact the IRS to make an appointment by the Wheeling, WV State Income Tax Office. The number is to make an appointment with your local IRS office. But be persistent, as the rep was telling me to just pay the past due balance and not make an appointment. Be persistent if you need the appointment as I did.

Was robo called by them .Said I'd go to jail if I didn' t call this number. They said they were from the IRS.

Yes and NO. Yes this is the IRS. Because this year I went to IRS, and they told me that I should call this phone number to set up an appointment. Also, this phone number is listed in irs.gov website: (https://www.irs.gov/uac/how-to-schedule-an-appointment-in-montana).
However, if you received a phone call from this phone number, then it is scam. IRS will never every call you or email you. Scammers is spoofing the caller ID.

Very Intimidating..No name..Basically if you do not contact us immediately your name will be...sounded like picked up for tax fraud or evasion. This was on my home phone voice mail.

844-545-5640 This is the appointment hotline for the IRS. Scammers may spoof the caller ID to have this number. The IRS will not call you from this number but it is ok to call it directly.

Not a scam. I was told by an actual IRS employee to call this number for one step of straightening out my tax return. It is an internal number for IRS office, but is being spoofed by scammers. OK if you call it - be suspicious if it calls you.

Just got a call today, Labor Day...seriously, IRS wouldn't be working today, much less making phone calls Number was 312-292-4912, came up as US Govt on caller ID, so I ans "what you want", women with accent asked to speak to me by name, I go yea what you want, she said are you deaf and hung up, called the number back and it said they don't take phone calls to call 944=545=5640, when googled, said in IRS in CT....Scam for sure,

This is an actual IRS phone number, but scammers, posing as IRS agents, are spoofing this number when they call hoping to find a victim. The IRS will not call you from this number. Don';t be fooled.

This IS the Internal Revenue Service located at 22 N Front St, Memphis, TN 38103. The report this is a SCAM is FALSE. If you call 901-544-3243 the recording will instruct you to call this number to make an appointment.

The IRS, the actual government institution, would NEVER call YOU. They also never email you on their own volition, only as a response to your email if you send them any. This call is a scam. The real IRS does correspondence by snail mail. By the USPS.
