This is a real number from BofA 's fraud department. I had tried to purchased something online last night. The card was declined. I then checked my statement and the vendor tried to charge my card 9 times! So, my card is frozen and I got an email stating this. Then the call this morning.
This number text me with a plausible message indicating my account is limited/on hold because of a potential fraudulent charge and to call the fraud department (with a provided number).
Then an hour later they called and left a voicemail from an automated system that sure sounded like Bank of America. I called the number they provided and it was temporarily unavailable. Then I called BoA from a number on their website and they inform me everything is fine and they did not send the message.
This is fraud people... and it's getting more convincing. The "IRS Scammers" are a joke and can easily be identified, but this is more likely to be confused with the genuine.
2 July 2018 After receiving a similar text message, I phoned the number in the text and listened to the recorded message asking for my credit card number; I hung up. I then phoned Bank of America via their customer service phone number found on the back of their credit card: 800-421-2110. They told me that the phone number 844-585-0485 is not one of their numbers and that there have been no merchant declinations–––as the text stated. So, I deem this a fraud! Interestingly, the fraudulent phone number's upon-answer recorded voice sounds exactly as the real BoA's upon-answer recorded message.
Got the text from this number, called the bank directly and the number and text were legit.
