You can add the name ANNA ID# 063 to the other calls. Same Phone #. Same M.O. Heavy Indian accent. Asking to replace receiver with Hopper, wanting last 4 of SS#, and PIN with Dish.
I contacted Dish to discover it was fraud.
Anna called me back to change the appointment time and I told her Dish identified her as a fraud. She told me she was 3rd party provider and tried to convince me she was legit. I asked her why the appointment was not showing on mydish page and why I had no email confirming the transaction? Eventually she gave up and said I could do as I wish and said goodbye.
Omg, this is scary. The exact same thing happened to us. The heavy accented man said his name was Sam Billings. He said die to complaints of storms causing problems that the satellite in space were being adjusted and we needed a upgraded box because our current one will not work. The fee was 150, and the fee will be refunded in form of 20 dollars discount from our bill for 2 years. I said that doesn't sound right, he kept lowering it because I was a good customer and I still said no. They asked for Name on bill and knew what I was paying, and asked for last four of social number. I said I can't afford now so they said when can we pay, and set up day to call back and then can send technician. He gave me his name and phone number to reach him. He also said he would update my software on my receiver so it will work until I can pay. Omg, I though it was for real at first until I thought about it, and looked up info on scams online. Those jerks, I'm pissed.
Yep, these Dish Network scam artists called me several times today. Most of the caller ID's showed up as private but one call came in with this number. I hung up after several minutes into the call when the caller was not able to provide me with our billing info (I had only given them my receiver number). I called Dish Network customer service at 1-800-333-3474 and reported the suspicious calls. They confirmed it was not their company's representatives that had called me and made a note of the incident in our account.
Received call with Dish Network showing on caller-I'd. Stated that satellite orbit changing and needed model number of receiver to determine if upgrade needed. Gave info and they stated that they would send technician with new boxes and arranged date and time. Said would be $150 service fee but would give $20/mo discount on bill for 1 yr. They had my name and current monthly Dish billing amount. Asked for account password and personal security info - DOB, city, state of birth. By this point I was suspicious and did not give out. Immediately called Dish and they confirmed that call was not from them, and that it was a scam.
I was called by two other numbers, one of them said Dish Network on the caller id. THis number (1-848-863-8081) was the number they gave me to call them back if I had any questions. They said Dish was doing upgrades and needed to check my receiver model and serial to see if I needed a new receiver box. He said I did, and scheduled a tech to come later this week to install the new box. He said new box would have 2000 hrs of DVR time and that only one box would be required for our three TVs. Then he told me that his tech support team would call me back after the tech leaves to make sure everything is set up and working correctly and then they would need to collect a one time charge of $150 service fee, but in return I would get $30 off my bill for a year. Called Dish right away and they could not see anything on my account showing an appt with a tech or that anyone had talked to me, so they started an investigation.
