Got a call from this number - foreign accent, said they were from First Advantage and calling to confirm someone's employment status. they wanted the company fax number. I informed them I was not authorized to give them that information and referred them to the main office number. Then asked for my name and position, which I did not give, and again I referred them to call the main number and ask for HR. That night I received an email supposedly from my boss (not from any email I know from him) asking me to text him at a number that isn't even in our area (347-313-8401). I looked up the phone number and saw it was a scam where they ask you to buy gift cards and then send them the numbers, pretending to be your boss. Since my boss is also family, I was able to confirm he did not email me and I ignored the message. It went out to other people in the office also. I think the original call was phishing for the boss's name and info to include in the text to make the second message seem legit.
I've received three calls today saying that they are calling about a reference. When I told them I am the manager they then went on to say it was for a personal reference and could only speak to the owner of the company. They hung up on me the last call. Scam call!
