Go to a branch in person with a printout of the email.
Was not called. Got a letter (as in at least one previous comment for this number), asking me to call the 855 number to give my personal important information. I googled the 855 number and found this page. Relieved to find out the request is legitimate. Thank you.
I received a letter requesting additional information on the grantors of two trust accounts that we have with Bank of America. I was suspicious so I called the customer service number at the top of the bank statement for our checking and savings accounts. 1-888-888-7937 Once I went through the automated menu, I talked to a service representative who told me that the number in the letter (855-364-2897) was definitely a Bank of America number. She connected me directly to the number on the letter. I was connected to a customer service rep immediately. They do not ask for you to verify the entire social security number, only the last four digits.
This is genuine. Apparently FDIC regulations have changed and BofA has to verify some details for all accounts held in name of a trust. I did not have to give my SS# over the phone, they already had it on file.
They encourage you to contact your own branch number to verify the 855 number is genuine if you’re uncomfortable.
I did not get a call but received an e-mail requesting information about a trust account. It did include the correct last 4 digits of the account number. Email was from Communications@servicing.bankofamerica.com However they indicated they may need a Social Security Number. I don't believe any bank would send an email to me requesting a SS#
