Right after I made a student loan payment over the phone to Nelnet, I received 2 phone calls from 855-720-8900. She called me by name, and she mentioned something to the effect I was having problems with my payment, and I said I was not, told her I made the payment and received a confirmation number, and she said okay. Is this phone number legit? Was she trying to scam me? I have never received a phone call from Nelnet until today. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
This is NelNet, a student loan servicer. They called to provide me with some information I had requested. Legit.
Nelnet is a real student loan servicer. It is not a scam like some of the people are saying. Nelnet is my student loan servicer and has been since 2012. In the future for those who are misinformed, contact your student loan servicer's main phone number from their website and all you do is ask them if they had actually contacted you and state the number. Also, NEVER give out your Social Security Number or personal information because they have that all on file.
I've never had a student loan serviced by Nelnet. I also made sure all my student loans were in deferment, due to a military deployment, coupled with the fact they don't leave a message, it's a scam.
Claim to be a company called "Nelnet". Its a fake company designed to trick you in to thinking you have outstanding student loan debt. First thing they want to "confirm" you is your "account number", which dosent exist, or your social security number. They literally called my five times in a row and when I called back and wanted to know who they were and that my student loans were paid in full, they put me on a loop of hold music. Its a scam, DO NOT give then your information or money.
