Received cold call this afternoon from Microsoft security. they claimed, on their end, they were receiving signs of a hack or in my case several. They guided me to a browser box showing me I had 4 unknown guests trying to access my computer. The MS rep tried unsuccessfully to get me to log-on to a auto access site, but failed every time. I politely pointed out to the man with a heavy accent that if, in fact, someone had hacked in to my computer, he would be aware of what you're trying to do and fight you. This eventually led to me being transferred to different heavy accented men with silly American names. That man was no more named "Larry" than I am Syed, I'm not. I was eventually accused of being an IT person playing with them. He demanded my to know my age and profession, both I countered, had nothing to do with the computer. After multiple tries at gaining auto access to my computer failed, he generously offered to use an advanced form of cleaning for a modest one-time fee of $300. I said I'd think about it and get back to him. They are very aggressive and talk a convincing game to a point.
I have pointed out to them in the past, that their heavy accents aren't helping sell this scam, with all the talk about foreign hackers in the states they should be aware of that. This is my second call from them in the last several weeks. They have never addressed me by name and it's always a foreign man with a super heavy accent who calls (always polite and professional) but do really think MS gives a sh** about you being hacked? Really?
