I received a call from this number. I Googled it and found it has been reported as a scam call. This is true regardless of the other post you see here saying that it is a legitimate Amex number. Call the number on the back of your card not this one.
The American Express New Accounts Team will dial out from a common phone number 1-866-379-3643 when something unusual about an application for a new card has been submitted. As an example, if fraud prevention and identification believes that someone is using another's identity to submit an application, the department may reach out to confirm, you are the person who has submitted the application. People are often surprised by the call, and may believe it to be phishing and not realize the reason they're receiving the call is because there was something suspicious about the application. I'm getting called every day, along with my wife.
Very frustrating.
i called the number on my card and they confirmed that it was an amex legitimate number
This is a phishing scam. I called back the phone number, gave them the reference number that was left on my voicemail, and they required my SSN in order to look up more details. If they were legitimately American Express and were calling me to discuss any matter relating to an open account or account application, they would NOT have asked for the SSN.
