What is a "Government Scam" Robocall?

Scammers who call people posing as a government agency are commonly referred to as "government scams". There are many different agencies these callers pose as, but they most commonly pose as the IRS. They say you have not paid your taxes and are wanted by the government. These calls can be very convincing, as they will usually have your name and home address, but they will request your social security number and sometimes even your bank information. There are other government agencies these scammers pose as, such as your local police department, the Social Security Administration, and Medicare. When people pose as government agencies, they are violating the law and should be reported immediately. If you are unsure if you are truly talking to a legitimate government agency or not, you can hang up the call, and call the real agency. Let them know you received a call asking for your information, and you want to be sure it wasn’t a scam call. The agency will be able to tell you if you are actually in trouble with them or not.

SPAM! No LEGIT company is going to ask you to enter all of your personal information and then let all of your friends and family know. What a joke. Don't be fooled by these morons. What's next? So if someone calls and says to go outside and take a look at your dogs poop, run back inside and tell you the color and orgin of where and when and what your dog may have eaten and then to tell all of your friends, would you do it? Use common sense people.

They keep calling even though I have asked a number of times for them to stop.

This is a legitimate number. The number is used nationwide by emergency agencies (police, fire, sheriff, etc.) under the auspices of Code Red. It is basically a reverse 911 call notifying citizens of an actual emergency, either immediate or imminent. NEVER disregard calls from this number! It may just save your life, someone else's life, or aid in finding a missing child or adult!

I don't know what he said and don't five a dam as I'm hard hearing and getting tired of being harassed by this number. I figure it is a part of Homeland Security and used for this purpose due to the fact the government FBI, FCC and Do Not Call Registry does nothing to stop it. I don't shake in my boots just because of some code, weather radio goes off or because they claim terrorist has attempted something. I've done to much history on Hitler, Gobbel's, The Brown Shirts and Gustopo. You come up with a better answer with the number of complaints out there. Spread the word around and the government will be forced to shut it down. And if done lightly or quietly then we know we are right. Publically we might have the chance of a class action lawsuite with rewards.

This number is just another SCAM ARTIST trying to SCAM people. It would be nice if the phone company would step up and do something about these SCAMs

It was for CodeRED alert within the city and county limits. Official call from the county office (recorded voice) stating the new program CodeRED has been started.

Calls several times in early a.m. Leaves no message. Claims to be "Code Red", but I suspect that criminal telemarketers (pardon the redundancy) or criminal debt collectors (same comment) somehow rig the call to appear to be a legitimate call from the local authorities. Is there anyway, other than spending huge amounts of money we working people don't have, to stop these crooks? Any ideas out there?

This is the call back number for the CodeRED Emergency Notification System. This system is used by cities, counties, and local government for getting information out to their community; they have complete control over the messages and when they are sent out. If you are receiving calls and it is inconvenient for you, you can simply contact your local officials and request to be put on their no call list. If the system gets an answering machine/voice mail it will leave a message; if person answers it delivers the message immediately; if you call back the number it will play the last message delivered to your phone number. The other issues express in previous postings have more to do with your phone company than CodeRED (there is not enough room or time here to address them).

CodeRED is also used by “A Child is Missing”; a national non-profit organization that issues missing persons alerts free for local law enforcement for missing children and at risk adults. A Child is Missing issuing CodeRED alerts has lead to over 400 safe recoveries.

CodeRED is also used by some colleges, universities, and K-12 schools to send emergency information to students/parents, staff, and faculty.
