man with a heavy accent called to collect a debt that isn't mine.

When I answer, they hang up,,Assholes!

They have called me three times a day for the last 3 wks. I have requested a bill through the mail but they insist on saying "so please give me the number of the credit card you wish to use to pay this bill". I hang up every time. I just now called from my work phone to hear the receiver completely confuse because they could not find "my work number" in their data base. The Indian Accent said "please hold my computer is slow" I said look, I want these calls to stop and If I do in fact owe money send me a bill. NEVER once did he ask for my name, just kept saying "hold on my computer is slow" Until I found this site I really thought I owed money. I have since contacted my local news in hopes that they will make an announcement.

I just recvied the same phone call. I'm a retired collections person from a reputable bank and have had all the training for collections as the company did not want to be sued. We had constant training. I asked this low life for mailing address so I could send him a hard copy to stop all communication as I do not owe SBC anything. I never had a bill that high anyway. He was asking for $400.00. He refused and then I asked for a supervisor and he started to get slimy with me.Advised him I was going to report him to the FTC and hung up. These both men are forign and why are we putting up with this? Where is our goverment !!!!!!!!

I recieved a call on my phone asking for my husband (who is not listed on my number). The man with an Indian accent said that he owed $500 on a SBC bill back from 2000. First of all my husband does not have any outstanding debts. Second, the debt that man was alleging he owed was 10 years old...way past the SOL in Texas.

The man refused to give the company's address and said they did not have a website address. The only information we got out of him was that the company's name was Allied Interstate. He refused to send proof of the debt in the mail and said the only way to pay was immediately on the phone.

Of course we refused to pay or acknowledge the debt because it is false. Sounds like a scam to me. Do not pay ANYTHING or agree to paying if you receive a call like this. I don't see how it can be legal. Today I have filed complaints with the FTC and Attorney General.

I now have 2 missed calls on my phone from the same number...

got called 2 - 3 times a day, either the connection is bad and they can't hear me or asking to talk to a Carol ___... Told them there was no one with the name Carol ___ living here and they asked to talk to Carol's husband. WTF? When I say he did live here either, caller say "some calls may be monitored or recorded" then hang up real quick.

Someone called me yesterday claiming that I owed Southwestern Bell, which is now AT&T a back cell phone bill. This is 2010-I had the phone in 1998. When I tried to tell him that it was already off my credit--he said that his company wopuld put it back on. After eleven years it automatically goes off your record. I believe this is a scam--please do not give them any information.

Someone with an Indian accent called saying he was trying to collect a Southwestern Bell Telephone bill about four years old. He said the name of his company is Allied Interstate in Carol Stream, Illinois. We do not owe Southwestern Bell anything, and have had the same telephone number with a different prefix from the one he gave me for 36 years. I have never had a "281" prefix number. We have lived at our present address for 36 years, and 15 years at our prior address. Our address on his file is about 25-30 miles from our home.

He tried to pressure me into giving him the last four digits of my Social Security number, which I refused to do, but would not give me the numbers on his file for me to verify. "All I have to do is call out the numbers, and they would stop all phone calls." SOUNDS LIKE A PHISHING SCAM TO ME.

Called early in the morning with no message. When I called back, someone with an Indian accent answered immediately. He said they were some diversified investment company calling for someone else...
