I also received a call from Carol Richardson with a reference number of 90903 who did not say who she works for. I don't have any tax issues, but I was intrigued that this was a real person and not the robot that threatens to arrest you, so I called back. Their recording says that you are being contacted because you either filled out a form online or called them for help with your IRS tax situation. I pressed 1 to have my number removed. The woman who answered would not answer any questions and said their only job is to remove phone numbers. She did tell me that the company she represents is Hurricane Tax in Los Angeles. I looked them up online and they have a different phone number - 844-829-2494
I explained the events and asked the woman if her company does this. I even explained that "Carol" is using the same reference number. The woman did not ask me any questions - not what phone number I called, not if I had actually filled out a form or called them for help. She explained how their service works, and basically that if you have ever been on a list with the IRS for being late on your taxes, you are on their list. So their rationale is definitely a lie. She did not seem concerned that they use the same reference number for every person. She simply told me that she would tell her boss that the woman was rude.
