My research & solution to receiving harassing calls from: 866-797-7639:
THIS "SALES" CALL WAS GENERATED FROM A WEB SITE OWNED BY "INSWEB" (insurance quote site).
YOUR NUMBER IS THEN SOLD TO ALLSTATE for "cold calls" or "sales calls." However, when you answer no one responds and they do not leave a voice mail.
They called 2-4 times a day for over a week.
Based on my Google search, I CALLED THE NUMBER BACK and a rep at an ALLSTATE CALL CENTER answered immediately. I was told that there is a delay when they call and I should be waiting 5 seconds for someone to respond. FIRST OF ALL I never hung up on them, the call ALWAYS ended on their end! SECOND: voice mail greetings are more then 5 seconds; so why don't they leave a message?! They faked genuine concern and would report the problem immediately.
TO ADD PHONE # TO ALLSTATE'S DO NOT CALL LIST (here is what I went thru):
They wanted full name, address and phone number. At this point they only have my number and look at how much harassing they do!
I POLITELY REFUSED (this rep is only doing a job and if we get mad we will seem like the "offensive jerk") and requested to speak to a supervisor (CALLS ARE RECORDED, PER MESSAGE AT BEGINNING OF CALL...so speak clearly and to the point)
If the rep keeps talking...simply say again: "I WANT TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR." Repeat as necessary (twice for me). You will be put on hold, rep will check in, but you should not have to wait more then 60 seconds.
The supervisor will ask again for all your personal information, but all they really need to put you on a "do not call" list (per supervisor I spoke to) is your phone number (which they already have if you called from the phone they've been calling...unless it's blocked) and your state.
Two possible reasons calls may continue:
1. If your phone number is in their "system" more then once, only 1 entry can be removed at a time (per call and after waiting 3 to 4 working days).
2. It can take 3 to 4 working days for the "system" to add you to the Do Not Call list for Allstate (not including sat & sun) so calls may continue during this time.
