I received a call from this number. The caller gave me the name of Melanie O'Connor. In the background I heard other muffled voices so it gave me the impression that it was a call center of some type. They asked me to have my mother call them, but I was suspicious and looked up the number here first. I'm glad that I did.
A couple of years ago my mother got a call telling her that one of her grandkids was stuck out of state and needed money for car repairs so he could get home. She got all the way to the bank before the bank teller talked her out of sending the money, So they do occasionally find one they can deceive.
I received a call from this number today and the person (a female) was looking for my wife. My wife has been applying for numerous jobs recently and so I thought nothing of it and gave them her number. I later called my wife and discovered they tried to reach her so we googled the number and found that others had received similar calls. I decided to try calling the number back and the same woman answered. She was very vague about what she wanted but did mention she was trying to get in touch with my wife's sister whom she mentioned by name. She stated that my wife had been listed as a contact and that she was handling some business for her. When I asked what company it was for she said they were called Capital Managment and that they were handling something on behalf of Discover. However, a search of the internet reveals no such company called capital management associated with this number. Also, we later found out they tried calling her other sister as well.
Absolutely a con. Had a message on my machine from them today. This is a common scam where the caller will mention the name of someone you know (their info is usually glommed from hacked email accounts). They will notify you that the person you know is in some predicament - please wire money soon, or better yet give us your checking account #. If they broadcast this enough eventually they'll hit upon some lonely old lady worried about one of her grandkids. The lowlifes that engage in this con would sell their own mothers.
