scam caller said they were from publsiher clearing house

this caller said they were from publishers clearing house caller said his name was Albert Johnson. proceeded to say i won a large sum of money and a car from publisher clearing house said items to be delivered to my home but i needed to pay a 1% tax on the money which add up to $699 dollars. I told him that publisher clearing house does not ask for a fee up from and they were some type on con artist, he then hung up on me. I told him he needs to stop playing with people lives. I wonder how they got my number in the first plac.
