I received a call from someone saying he was "David Sayer" calling from Publisher's Clearing House to tell me I won a cashier's check for $1,280,000.00 and a 2016 Mercedes, scheduled for delivery at 2:30 today. I played along, waiting for him to ask me for money up front. It never got that far. The caller ID said "KINGSTON JM" (Kingston. Jamaica) with phone number 876-869-4539. He did ask questions, like what color did I want the car to be, and if something happened to me, who should get the money. The phone connection was bad, and he tried twice to call back. Once I heard a child in the background. I had already expressed some skepticism, and he hung up after I answered the third call. AARP warns of scams from this area code, and it's a very expensive long distance call if you call back.
