I was just contacted by a male who was asking for donations to send care packages for the soldiers in Iraq. He sounded genuine, and indicated that they had 3 levels of donation, $30.00 $40.00 & $50.00. I requested that he sends his envelopes in the mail. He further noted that he would transfer the call to his customer dept. to ensure that I was not contacted again. When the female service rep. came on the line, she tried to obtain credit card information, and asked if I could send my donation within a week. I then reminded her that I would review their envelope before making a decision to donate. Is this a legitimate agency working in the interest of our troops, or is this just a scam?

These people originally called to ask for Mrs. Vinson. No she doesn't live her and before you know it they are trying to get me to donate, Yes I verified that it wasn't her phone and not her address and by then they had my address. Already had my phone. And as they were asking me to donate, kept calling me Mrs. Vinson. I told them I was partime and couldn't donate much. They settled for $20.00. Well I received the statement and then ended up in the hospital. When I got back they called to verify I was still sending it. Didn't seem one bit concerned that I had just had a heart failure scare. So as I'm putting all this together I looked it up on the internet to see SCAM!. They do have a web site, but something still telling me SCAM. So I looked at the first page on them, Didn't have any contact information regarding the change of there name. And when I do further research on one address in peticular HI. I see an address, no office number multi business building. and their name not listed on the business in the building. Then I find this site. Which brings it all clear to me. SCAM 101! They may have my number, address. But they sure do not have my information for the bank, credit. I told them I would have to send a check. So if they call again I will tell them what I have found and see how they react. Maybe even go down the the City Marshalls office with all my infor. We will see. But no money sent.

they call my elderly parents and ask for money. i answered the call while visiting, told them to stop calling, and they were VERY AGITATED. They said I had to right to speak for my parents and ended the call. Later than night, around 9:pm, they called again. I answered and told them not call again, and the person on the other end hung up without any verbal acknowledgement.

I'm suspicious these calls are actually coming from a shyster bill collection agency. One outfit that uses phone scams like this is called ER Solutions, but there are others. This type of collection agency buys up old accounts for a penny or two on the dollar, and often the info they have for these accounts is outdated or incomplete. They're hoping to verify phone #'s etc. and whatever else they can get.

Obviously, do not return these calls (they'll use your caller ID to identify you). If you answer the call, don't give them your name or address or anything. If they ask for you by name, tell them they have a wrong number.

Same story as all below. They are nasty, rude and call at all hours of the day and night. I blocked the number on our phone and they retaliated by blocking their number and then called several more times. My husband donated but I now believe it is a bogus organization. Really, someone should shut them down...is there something that can be done?
