877-647-8551 is the correct number for Wells Fargo Overdraft Collections. It is NOT illegal to call on Sundays. Check your laws. Sunday calls do not automatically violate the FDCPA, they are prohibited if the collector knows that Sunday is not a good day for you to receive collection calls. To let the debt collector know, simply tell the collector that Sunday is not a convenient time for you to receive calls. That would mean you have to answer the phone and request that calls stop. Also when you call back in to Wells Fargo ODCR (overdraft collections and recovery) you have to verify who you are and possibly provide info (acct#/SSN/or debit) to pull up acct in system because unless your current number is in the collections system already, the account will not necessarily populate automatically for the rep. If the account does populate, you still have to verify that you are the account holder with the last 4 of SSN or acct#, and name and dob. That way there is no danger that account info is being given to someone that is not the account holder. There are attempts at phishing at banks all day every day and to collections departments especially trying to get account information and details. The representatives job is to keep your account details secure and only provide account info if you are the account holder and have fully verified yourself. Also if you think you did not have a balance when the account closed, did you have any recurring payments on the account you forgot to cancel??? Those are not cancelled by the bank. That is your responsibility. Accounts must be at a zero balance for a full 30 days to fully close so if there was anything pending or any automatic or recurring payments set up, those could cause the account to reopen because you have a contract with that merchant that is your responsibility to cancel or place a stop payment so it must be allowed to go through and this can cause a non sufficient funds fee if returned unpaid or if it gets covered can overdraw the account and incur an overdraft fee. See it happen all the time. When an account charges off with a balance it is reported to Early Warning Services. To get a report and see if you have a checking or savings account with a charged off balance that is being negatively reported call 800-204-4616 and if it is an older account can call ChexSystems for report and that number is 800-428-9623. If you are not comfortable with calling back the #877-647-8551 or -8552 (for closed accts) to discuss OD WF account or remove # if calling incorrect number, you can always call # on back of debit card which is customer service (800-869-3557) and they will transfer you over to ODCR or go to branch for assistance. No one wants you to feel like you are being scammed but it is always a good idea to know if you have an outstanding balance and if not getting your number removed from the dialer takes less than 10 seconds.
