Got the letter today. Glad I googled the phone number. Would hate to be hassled by a pushy scammer. Thanks for posting your experiences.

I figured this was a scam of some sort, I was thinking about calling just to get a kick out of what they were going to say, but I came here first. Glad I didn't call because they would keep calling and harrassing me.

Mama didn't raise no fool. (Well almost)... I almost called the above number and thought best to google it first. (Okay as an after thought.) Found all of you here, same letter, scary results. Glad I didn't fall for it. I am in Washington State though. Seems like the disease is spreading.

Living the dream...(well almost.)!

Received letter today, 11/13/2010, with the same info as others who have posted here. I started to call, but thought I would Google the number and came across this site. Figures. As has been stated, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

I got the letter today, and called them. They are Accelerated Equity & Development. 14 years in the business, and A+ rating with the BBB. That's good enough for me to say these guys aren't a scam. They are really nice on the phone too!
Accelerated Equity & Development out of Salt Lake City, Utah. Look on the BBB for yourself.

I also received this same letter. After reading your comments, I did not bother to call the toll free number - we already know I would be asked for $99 and my credit card information. Instead, I phoned the Sandy, UT Post Office and asked who rents P.O. Box 788. She didn't know, and the person I would have to speak to was not there. She did confirm that Box 788 exists. I then asked if I could find out who obtained Permit #662 - but again, she didn't know and the person I would have to speak to was not there. I suggested that the box and the renter be investigated. To all of you out there, I suggest perhaps you also call the Sandy, UT Post Office. Perhaps enough calls will provoke the P.O. into initiating an investigation of Box 788. The Sandy, UT Post Office can be reached at (801) 565-1946.

Thanks for the Sandy, Utah, PO phone no. and the PO Box and Permit no. I wasn't able to get info from the Sandy PO but did get the no. for the Postal Inspection Service and plan to follow up. If you want to do so, the no. is 877-876-2455.

Ladies, don't be so paranoid. I called them without coming here first. They are a legitimate company. They have an A rating with the Better Business Bureau and they helped me out with my letter. Refunds in mortgages are COMMON. Look at bank of america! they are in big trouble over this. Anyway, i had no problem with this company.

Like everyone else I got the same letter. Just a phone number, 1-877-670-5577. The fine print simply states that "Loan information displayed...is available through public record. Has anyone actually tried to call the number?

I just noticed all the dates for these posts. Must be a new scam from somewhere.

I received the same letter and decided to google the phone number and brought me here. I am glad I did so. I am going to let my bank know this is going around and see what they say. My letter says the same as everyone Else's does! What a bunch of crap!

I also received the same letter as others in this thread. The ironic part for me, however, is that the loan date and amount relates to my sister's mortgage - not mine. What's even more odd is that I had recently helped my sister by paying off a default loan servicing company a $2,000collection amount on her mortgage, and used a personal check to do so (thus, I'm guessing the name and address from my check header became tied to her mortgage account at that point). And guess where the servicing company resides? Layton, Utah...only 35 miles from the Sandy, Utah PO Box where all of us seem to have received our recent Mortgage Refund letter. I can only assume that the Loan Servicing Company handling my sister's debt collection notice is just one of many organizations selling all of our personal information every day.

Got the same letter in the mail. No business name at all anywhere in this letter. In tiny print at the bottom it does say "This is not a government offer." This is most likely a scam. I might send this to my Attorney General so they can investigate. If they did owe us money....they would have all of our information and make sure that we receive the payment....this letter is so bogus!!! Tired of Junk Mail.

We received a letter "RE: Mortgage Audit", stating "... you may be owed a refund of several thousand dollars on the mortgage that was funded on _/ _ /_ in the amount of ...." it went on to state the average refund is $1,500 and one third of the refunds equal $3,000-$10,000. The letter had no letter head or company address and neither did the envelop. My husband called and spoke to a "Wendy" who told him it would cost $99 to initiate the audit and in the event they were not able to recover any money the $99 would be refunded. The women was VERY insistent on receiving a credit card number and was a very smooth talker! My husband finally gave her a fake card number to get her off the phone. I goggled the toll free number to see if I could gather any information about the company and was sent to this site. Looks like a total scam!

I received a letter as well. This does to appear to be a scam, after all if I had overcharged on my mortgage it would seem reasonable that the mortgage company or even the governement would send notification, not some unknown company. Just remember if it seems to good to be true it probably is.

He call it and a lady ask him to Seen $99 to start process fee, and to give her his visa #, I didn't feel right about this so I told him to hang up the phone, she call right back, and on the caller ID was United First Fin. Just received the letter myself. Interesting how the notice expires in two days. They want you to rush to the phone. I'm really curious what they're going to ask for on the phone, but I don't want to willingly give these people my phone number.
