The phone number is a legitimate one to a SSN office (807 - 803-6318) however scammers are able to spoof any phone number under the sun. If the Social Security Administration ever wants to get a hold of you, they'll send mail.
same from this #8778036392
Received 2 calls with the robot voice, I hung up the first time, played with them the 2nd call. Heavy Indian accent guy tried very hard to get my name and SS number. Gave him a fake name and said if they were really the SSA they would have all my info already since they called me. Finally he got so upset with me that he said "F-off" and hung up

I received a call from this number. They left a pre-recorded message claiming it was from the Social Security Administration and that my social security number had been "suspended" due to suspicious activity. Curiously, I received the exact same message 2 hours ago from a completely different number. A Google search revealed that while this is in fact a legitimate number for the SSA office in Texas, it is also a phishing scam. The head of the SSA issued press release in June warning people about this scam and not to give out any personal info. The SSA NEVER suspends a person's social security number and does not leave recorded messages such as this one.
