They called my husband wanting to know if that was the EMERGENCY number for me. Mind you my husband is out in the field working and really doesn't have great service. Why would someone do that if it was not an emergency?!
The company is named: Credit Smart and their primary job function is to acquire old debts that are hard to collect on (or) from companies that are going out of business.
They try to get the person they are calling scared enough to pay off the debt or
Pay monthly fees on a debt that is so old, that the courts would throw it out.
The will tell you that it is going to court that day or the next day.
They will also tell you that they just acquired your file today and then they will tell you that they have had it for over a month or longer.
The person that I spoke with could not get her story straight once I told her that it was ILLEGAL for them to call on the same day that they are going to court.
That is when she told me they had just acquired the file today.
Before we got off the phone, I told her that if I could not come up with the money in 2 weeks that I would just see them in court and I would bring in the recorded message of this conversation and of her threatening to take me to court on this day.
She then stated that they had my file for over a month.
That is when I told her I would talk to her in 2 weeks.
I contact the Attorney General's Office and spoke to a woman who advised me that it was in fact illegal and a fraud regardless of the fact that I did owe the debt, that if I really wanted to pay it off, to pay off the company I had the credit card with, which would make their day.
Not saying that you need not pay your debts, it is just with this company.
