I called back the number on the back of my Amex card. I asked if 1-888-800-5234 is really the American Express identity protection team. The Amex representative confirmed that it is. For me, it is a problem they flag when I use Amex Send for the first time. They asked me a bunch of verified questions (name, address, my own custom verification question) and enable Amex Send for me in the future.

It IS the AMEX Fraud line. Not a scam. If you think it is a scam just call the number on the back of your card.

Keeps calling me, everyday, saying AE card has been stolen. Asked the called to record the call but called denied. Its a fraud call.

I got the call from this number and, rather, called American Express directly. They confirmed that the call did NOT come from them and that there was no activity of concern on my account. Suggest that this is a fraud, attempting to extract my account/personal information if I called them back.

NEVER GIVE PERSONAL INFORMATION TO SOMEONE WHO CALLS YOU. INITIATE THE CALL TO AMERICAN EXPRESS YOURSELF. THIS EXTRA STEP WILL KEEP YOU FROM BEING VICTIMIZED.

I agree it is REAL. It is the AMEX Fraud Department. I moved and updated my address on the Amex website. The next day they called me to verify it was really me who made the change. High praise for AMEX with all the fraudsters out there.

This number is a FRAUD. I called the number for American Express, they told me the fraud number is 800-660-2454. If they call you call Experian or another such company. Someone is impersonating you.

After I called the number and the conversation ended. I logged into my account and used their online chat system and they confirmed the activity associated with the phone number and verified it was indeed from the AmEx fraud dept.

If you recieve a call from (888-800-5234) is is very real, it is the phone number for the Idenity Protection Team of American Express. Their job is to confirm poss fraudulant applications or idenity theft of existing accounts. If you receive a call from this phone number and are not sure just call the number on the back of your card or any other source you are comfortable with, like directory asst. or American Express website. ANYONE can be a victim of ID Theft ! American Express works hard to make sure you are not and if you are to let you know and to help stop it ! You may be asked to do procedures that other companys do not do but it IS for your PROTECTION !! Frauds today are very sophisticated

They left a message asking me to call the AMEX Fraud Department back. They said this was not a sales call.

I called the called real AMEX on 9/17/2008 11:54 AM at 1-800-668-2639, they told me the 888-800-5234 number is not one of theirs.
