Same situation. Was skeptical. So just went to Equifax mortgage solutions actual website https://mortgagesolutions.equifax.com/ and called the number listed there 1-800-333-0037. I used the reference number given by the person calling me and they were able to track it. So i guess its legit, but still i would just recommend calling Equifax directly and asking them to route you.

I am a mortgage broker and this is not a scam. Equifax needs to call to verify some credit related things when going through the loan process. They are not acting like a lender, they are just the mortgage branch of credit than mortgage brokers use.

I ignored the call a couple of times thinking it was a scam. My lender contacted me to tell me to quit blowing off Equifax. It is legit and and I would to personally thank all the folks who stated that it was a scam. That is two hours of reading useless comments and worry that I will never get back.

Anyone who knows anything about lending or borrowing will confirm THIS IS DEFINITELY A BIG SCAM! Those few comments in here saying it's not a scam are a part of the SCAM. These criminals rarely work alone -- and they're all expert liars who go to great lengths to support their scam network. They will give you the wrong number to someplace you're familiar with and tell you to call it to verify their legitimacy--but any number you get from them or any links you get from them will connect you to another liar working in their "Scam Network."

Yes!!! I’m so glad I saw this! I’m refinancing too and they stated they needed my authorization to release any info from my new lender to finalize the loan. I hung up once the rep put me on hold and contacted my MLO immediately!

This number is NOT legit. I am going through a refinance and I was working when they called. Their voicemail said they were with Equifax Mortgage and wanted to do a conference call with me and my bank about my current Mortgage and former home equity loan company. I got in touch with my real refi lender and he said Equifax does NOT have a mortgage branch and it sounded like a scam. So I looked up the number and found this site. DO NOT call them back. I have blocked them.

They called me while I was at the table signing with the seller. Lol. We all looked at one another and laughed. The attorney took my phone, gave them an earful and THEY hung up. Always call your lender before freely giving out information. If it’s a legal call they will connect you to equifax/etc. scammers

This is a legit number. I am going through a refinance and they called me because my current mortgage provider needs my permission to speak with them. I searched online and initially I thought it was a scam but reached out to the (new) mortgage refinance company, they confirmed it was real. They didn't ask me for my social or anything like that.

It is NOT a legitimate number! And funny how the one and only comment saying this is a legit number comes from an anonymous person. There's enough Red Flags just in these comments to see that this number belongs to some entity trying to rip people off!

Be very careful. I got this same call while trying to close on a mortgage. Luckily my loan officer provided an Equifax conference number differing from the 888 899 1126 number. The representative with Equifax confirmed the 888 899 1126 number to be a fraud caller and was going to report it to his company He stated Equifax will not initially reach out to you in this manner and you always call in first with information provided by your loan officer. Always check with your lender on those phone numbers. I was given reference number 62111126, see the red flag?

Got a call from this number, and listened to the message. Since I'm in the middle of a home equity refi, it got my attention. I checked sites such as this one, no help at all, since the people indicating it's a scam number have no idea what they are talking about. I called Equifax Mortgage Solutions at (800) 333-0037, and they verified it's ONE of their conference call numbers to conduct a conference call with my lender to verify my current home equity loan information. Called my lender, they verified I need to get this done to close my loan. Called this number, did the conference call with the lender, and my loan is in the final stage. The number is legit, call Equifax Mortgage Solutions at (800) 333-0037 to verify it for yourself.

I had the identical experience. I am also in the middle of a refi. Received a call from a UK phone number, same message from an woman with an Indian accent. Said to call back at 888-899-1126. The reference number she gave me is IDENTICAL to yours: 6211126.

THIS IS A SCAM CALL.

However, I called Equifax directly (not the number she gave me) and got the line for their mortgage dept. I also called my bank directly and asked if they had received a request from Equifax. The confirmed that they had been contacted, but I gave them ONLY the real Equifax main line number (obtained by calling Equifax from their site).

I talked to Equifax and they have NO RECORD of that reference number. I am currently on the phone with my bank and the real Equifax.

They did not ask

Got a voicemail saying Equifax Mortgage Solutions needs me to have a conference call with my current mortgage loan servicer. Called back and somebody started asking for my social security number. Not comfortable doing that!

BEWARE! Disregard the comments claiming this is a legitimate company -- the scammers are leaving fake comments on numerous sites about the number claiming that the company is valid. THIS IS NOT TRUE.

I work for a financial institution and received a phone call from this number a few days ago. A man named Krisna, claiming to be with "Equifax Mortgage Solutions" was attempting to get VERBAL information about a mutual client because he was refinancing their mortgage. LET'S BE CLEAR: EQUIFAX DOES NOT SERVICE OR ISSUE LOANS. Equifax is a credit reporting agency, they do not lend monies. Also, anyone in the industry knows that no mortgage lender will call up another institution to get information. Any requests for additional information are WRITTEN and a written authorization from the client with their true signature is REQUIRED. Be aware of anyone offering to "conference call" with your institution -- this is likely another bad actor who already knows your information and is pretending to be a representative of your institution.

In case you're wondering, when I told Krisna that we would need a written request and signed client authorization statement to be faxed to us, Krisna asked if we would accept an electronic signature (LOL, nope!). I gave him my fax number, but haven't received anything as of yet. I'm willing to bet it's because he knew the jig was up.

How do I know all about these type of scams? Remember how I said I work for a financial institution? Yeah, I'm a Fraud Investigator.

This entire post should be disregarded. Although it is true that Equifax does not service or issue loans, they do have a mortgage solutions department that works closely with loan underwriters to verify the information submitted on loan applications. I originally googled this number because I received a call that I was not expecting. But when I checked my to-do list on Veterans United I saw that "Conference Call with Equifax" had been added as an item to complete. This is a valid number and I did not have to provide any personal information to have Nationstar verify that I was current on my other mortgage.

My lender confirmed this was a legit phone number and request from Equifax Mortgage. The most painful call I sat through and humiliating but legitimate.

If this is true, then you need to part ways with your lender. Equifax does not service or issue loans. If the scammers were able to compromise this lender, or rather, the representative that confirmed this as a legit number, than this institution is not taking your security seriously.

Verified with my lender. This is a legit number that can calls when applying for a new mortgage and their are unanswered questions about your credit report. Their process does not seem to be very secure and could be easily spoofed.

Gilbert M - I received a call from Equifax Mortgage Solutions at 888-899-1126. I was buying a house and Navy Federal made me pay off 2 vehicles. One from Chrysler Capital and one that I was financing from Logix Credit Union. Equifax was updating the tradelines to show they were paid off. Not a scam.

They called to verify rental payments for my tenant who is purchasing a new home. I called back to verify that they were indeed Equifax, it was. Not a scam.

You have left this same comment, word for word, on numerous sites. You are part of the scam. You are the bad actor, and a lazy one at that. You're literally copying and pasting this dialogue on the websites, you can't even be bothered to change it up a little bit.

Shameful and disgusting, you bring great shame upon your family.

I received a call from 888-899-1126 to request a conference call with my previous lender to confirm my former mortgage was paid off. They are legit as I called and asked my loan officer. She had requested the Equifax credit report update to verify my former mortgage paid off to update my credit report for my new mortgage. If you have recently sold a house and paid off your mortgage at closing, depending on the previous lenders policy to release your information to lenders (some will, some will not), expect to get a call from Equifax Mortgage Solutions. It will depend on the lender, some ask to receive permission directly from customer thus the conference call with all three parties. Of course, there could be scammers using their number to show on your phone caller ID so always call your loan officer first and call them back.
