I received many calls from this number today. I never answer calls from numbers that are not saved into my phone so finally they left a voicemail. He now appears to be using the name James Hilton but leaving the exact information others have stated : I have a federal case against me, blah, blah.
I received a call from this number 9043028260
I have been receiving threatening calls from this number for the past 2 days. They introduce themselves as William Johnson (well faked american accent) and they say they call from the Federal Investigation department at IRS. Furthermore they continue to say that there is a legal case filed against my name, my social and my physical address. This smelled Scam and fraud since I'm 100% sure that I have no tax issues. Besides IRS has my mailing addresses and would have emailed ahead of time if there were any issues as opposed to having someone call and making threats. From a quick search on the internet I learned that apparently William Johnson is a name used a lot is IRS frauch schemes/ threatening calls which have been made in past years right before tax season where they demand and solicit people for money making up exaggerated number. A couple of things to consider here: IRS would normally email you ahead of time if there are discrepancies. Usually discrepancies are reflected in the next tax season. IRS has a 1 800 number and in addition to that they have local offices in each state. Why someone from Florida would call you let's say in Boston ? They give no reference to what the issue is about, Case number, nada. I called that number back today just to confront them. A woman with a heavy Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi accent replied. When I confronted here, all she said is "Are you sick ?" -Really ??? When I started to scream and yell informing them that they were committing Fraud and Scam she didn't really respond as an IRS official. IRS is aware of these scammers and asks everyone to report. I did so yesterday. If the same has happened to you. Please go ahead and report them. Here are the details. https://www.irs.gov/uac/Report-Phishing Never share you SSN and your address. IRS would never ask you for that or for money over the phone.
I'm posting this everywhere since this caused a lot of stress to me. I want to inform people of what is going on if they get a call from this number.
