I get a call every morning around 10 a.m. from someone with a strong Indian accent representing U.S. Autocare, They use American names like Joe, Bill, Jim, etc. I hung up on a caller recently and he called right back saying he would "f#*k my mother, f#*k my sister! I don't have call waiting. BTW, I am on the Do Not Call list and pay extra for an unlisted number but do no not have Caller ID as until recently only friends/family have my number.

This number calls me tree to 4 times a day. When I did answer I asked not to be called again. They keep calling. Several times they asked for my brother so they could send him a summons and if we didn't answer within 24 hours whatever they were going to send to my house would automatically arrive. Of course it never has...They NEVER LEAVE A MESSAGE AND YOU CAN'T CALL BACK....

Most likely you entered your information on a website requesting auto insurance quotes without realizing it, these people are paid to generate leads so they call in and verify the details of your car make model and year and then sell the information to auto insurance companies to call you back with quotes.

These folks CLAIM that you "filled something out online..." to skirt the National Do-Not-Call Registry. In reality, they make hundreds of calls in violation of the NDNCR, occasionally 'hitting' with someone who actually might be interested in auto insurance quotes. They can then pass your info on to 'legit' insurance companies, who are actually paying them for the info. Here's what I like to do when they call: a) express interest and give COMPLETELY BOGUS info about you and the car you 'own'. b) When the actual state-side insurance companies call, waste as much of their time as possible, then inform them that you don't actually own the car they just gave a quote on, and that they are using an illegally-operating aggregator to drive sales leads to them. c) remind them that this practice reflects extremely unfavorably on their company, and that they should expect a BBB complaint about their sales practices. Sometimes to kill the plant, you HAVE to get to the ROOT...

If you are fortunate like I am , that can speak 4 different languages other than English...do that..it totally messes with them and they get so annoyed that you speak a different language they take your number off their list and never call again.

What a jerk, can't take a hint. Same problems most people seem to be having, so I reported them to the FCC and in the meantime, I answer the phone with my harmonica and play them a 30 second ditty (and I can't play the harmonica)

This caller is so persistent, it's been 9 days, multiple calls a day and I couldn't get them to stop. That is, until I found a helpful blog comment of calling 866-246-7196. Initially, I was reluctant but without another way to stop the harassment, I called, as per requested I gave the caller's phone number to verify it's on their list and the receiving phone number to add to the do not call list. I'm so happy the calls stopped, I wanted to post this to help others.

The National Do-Not-Call Registry was a good start and 90+ percent of legitimate companies respect and use it. The remaining scum telemarketers will keep changing tactics and dancing around the DNCR and will only ever respond to what hurts their bottom line. My solution requires a bit of time and effort, but then, so does sex… These tactics may not be a satisfying as sex, but they ARE satisfying and have the added bonus of helping to fix one of life’s perpetual annoyances:
1) ALWAYS answer the phone – if we are running away, the “terrorists” win. ALWAYS “press 1” to talk to an Operator.
2) When you get an actual person, express reluctant interest in whatever product or service is being hawked. Talk slowly and ask lots of questions. Always give phony personal info like CC#, SS#, address, heck even change your name slightly. Keep them on the line as long as possible.
3) Try to get as much info about the company as possible and file a BBB complaint (“Unethical Sales Practices”). A national energy company recently revamped their entire telemarketing policies in regard to the DNCR in response to a BBB complaint I filed – this CAN work.
4) If the product involves your home, set up an appointment for a time that you are not home, or just don’t answer the door. This can cost a company a LOT of money and resources.
Remember, the goal is to cost these companies time, money, and maybe more importantly, to make it impossible for them to know if they are talking to a sucker, or just another Phone Punker. Be creative, have fun, and feel proud that YOU are helping to eliminate one of life’s many intractable and seemingly un-fixable problems.

Apparently Auto Insurance - I would NEVER do business with a company that regularly breaks the law by disregarding the National Do-Not-Call Registry.

UPDATE:
Just a little helpful information. Asking to be taken off of their call list did not make a difference. The number of times that they called me lessened but they still called 12 times within the next three days. I answered each time that they called and asked them to stop calling me. When that did not work I filed a complaint with the FCC. The next time that they called me, I waited until there was a person on the line and told them nicely that I had filed a report with the FCC to please stop calling me. They have not called again since. This may be something that someone else wants to try if they become to much of a nuisance. Good luck all!

REPEATEDLY calls and identifies himself as someone different each time, calling about auto insurance. It is the same person. I have asked nicely the first 8 or 10 times to DO NOT CALL ME. I am on the national do not call list since 2002. They call anyway at least once or twice a week. Sometimes just hangh up when I tell them to not call again. I have reported them to our attorney general's office. They just laugh and say they won't do anything about it.
