From the Clay County (Missouri) Sheriff's Office on facebook:
"Today we've received SEVERAL reports of people getting scam phone calls from a New York state area code with a recorded message threatening charges if you don't call them back. It just so happens the facebook guy for the Sheriff's Office got the same message on their work line this morning as well, and obliged their request for a return phone call. He spoke to an "Officer Alex Welsh" until they hung up after realizing they were talking to the real cops.
Be careful about who you give personal information to, especially over the phone. Don't be a victim!
Here is a portion of what the recorded message says:
"taken under custody by local police as there are four serious allegations pressed on your name at this moment. We would request that you get back to us so that we can discuss about this case before taking any legal action against you. The number to reach us is 929-268-1023. I repeat 929-268-1023. Thank you."
Leaves a message that 4 warrants for my arrest. Second call.
