Just called me as well. (951)299-5741 sent me a text regarding a Craig's List Ad I am running. They want to send a cashier's check and once cleared will have some movers come by to pick it up. No mentioned of the check being made out for a larger amount than the item I am selling with my needing to refund the buyer some amount or anything like that. As soon as I replied that I would only accept cash the messages stopped. Same basic if not the exact same content as the messages seen in previous postings here. Remember, Cashier's checks are NOT just like cash. They need 7-10 days to clear and in the interim if they don't clear and you have given the other party any cash or goods, you are probably out of luck in getting it back.
Side Story (related topic): I had this happen with a car I was trying to sell a few years back. This buyer's auto broker in Toronto, Canada had an out of town client that had left him a cashier's check for $50,000 which he would send to me to cover a purchase price of $16,500. He asked that I cash their check and refund the balance to the buyer's auto broker whereby they would send someone by to pick up the car. I rec'd the check and called the bank it was drawn upon to find out it was long since out of business. Through further investigation with my local bank I learned about the pitfalls of the cashier's check. Heads up out there!!!
Same experience as the other report. They sent a fake cashiers check, which I took to the bank and reported after verifying it was fake, it is now with the FBI. Hope they find this jerk.
This person texted my in response to a craigslist ad saying they wanted to buy my item via a cashiers check because they weren't in town currently. SCAMMER! We I responded that I could only take cash they never replied.
