LEGIT call. They were following up on a letter they sent about further helping with drug prescription after signing up for my well-deserved Medicare after paying into it all these years!

Because it sounded legit does not mean it was. Government agencies do not normally robocall people or follow-up by phone to ensure we’ve received anything from them, let alone letters they send to hundreds of thousands of people at a time. Now that you’re on Medicare (or SSI), be careful of what you receive in the mail too. You’re now a member of a prime target group for scammers and thieves.

This is a legitimate Social Security number. I had recently signed up for SS and Medicare as I had turned 65. They were following up with me to make sure I got the information they mailed me. They did NOT ask for anything. Or try to get any further information.

I just got a call from this same number an hour ago. The caller ID said Social Security. I just signed up for Social Security. So they are tracking us!! I didn't answer the call!

Because it sounded legit does not mean it was. Government agencies do not normally robocall people or follow-up by phone to provide us appointment reminders or to ensure we’ve received anything from them, like letters they send to hundreds of thousands of people at a time. They cannot afford to and are huge bureaucracies. Anyone on Medicare and SSI must be very careful of snail mail letters, emails, text messages, and phone calls. You’re a member of a prime and lucrative target group for scammers and such thieves use increasingly polished methods of tricking people into clicking links and returning calls.

The caller left a message advising to look for a letter from SSA ..something about "help with prescription expenses" and left a toll free number for more information. I deleted it.

SSN Scam, left message about an appointment at the local SSN office which was never scheduled, notifying 1 day before the appointment so that I call this douche-bag Robert Roddy to discuss how he's getting along with his pregnant cat.

Same happened to me today. I only got the VM and it was reminder for SS appointment. But wonder why SS uses a phone number that has some person's name, why can't they put their official name and use toll free number to call the public?!
