Just got a call from that number. I didn't answer because (1) it's an 800 number and (2) what phone number has 8 digits?? 695-47466??
Today I received a call claiming my Apple icloud account has been breached and to contact apple support or to press 1 to be forwarded to Apple Support which I did and was connected to a person named Catherine. She spoke with a slight accent and there was a lot of background noise like it was from a Call Center. She informed me that there was a lot of activity on my iCloud account from all over the USA and that alerted them to a potential for fraud. She asked me if I had given out my ID to anyone or if any friends or family may have used it. I said NO...then the conversation got really weird. She told me that my router was compromised and need to be encrypted and that my IP address was now a problem. She informed me that the IP address was like my social security number and now the “bad guys” have a way into all of my Apple products. Little did this scammer know...but, I am a seasoned IT person...and I knew that she was full of b.s. Now I played along a little further...I asked her what did I need to do to correct the issue. She told me that I need to get a $200-$500 Google Play card to get the verification number that would allow her to provide me with the details on how to encrypt my router. (I knew she was so full of crap and she had no idea that I was calling her bluff). I asked her how could I verify that she was from Apple and not some scammer...because this whole thing was wonky. She asked me to go to the store...she would stay on the phone line with me as I purchased the Google Play card and we could handle all of this over the phone but she didn’t want me to feel “alone.” The scammer further informed me that I would be reimbursed within 3-5 hours from Apple as a part of their Apple Reimbursement Program (ARP)....(there is no such thing by the way). I asked her to send me an email that would provide the info about the ARP program...she sent an email to me...it had a lot of info that would make it look like it was from Apple; however, the email address details said Apple Care and the respective email address is Apple.care1801@usa.com. DON’T FALL FOR THIS SCAM!!! If you were not technically savvy, she really could have fooled someone into giving over several hundred $$$. I alerted Apple by talking to one of their technicians and forwarded the bogus email to their phishing support for further investigation.
Same here.
Meant iCloud account. Sorry!
Calls continue to come in from this number claiming to be from apple and that my icould has been breached.
