Last time they called I answered the "Microsoft security". Did phase the guy calling and I - You know you are talking to Microsoft security. He said he'd get his manager. Trying to think of other ways to answer phone.
Yes, caller ID showed 1 202 154 6237 the other day. Note that exchanges (154 in this case) do not begin with 1. Caller had Indian accent, said he was calling from Microsoft Technical Dept. He was not phased when I said we have a Mac, not a PC. I told him not to call my number again & hung up.
BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THESE CALLS! These guys are distributors of "ransomware". They most often claim to be from Microsoft and have noticed that there is something wrong with your computer and if you will permit them access to it, they'll fix it for you. If you allow them access to your computer, they will install a utility, that will lock it up tighter 'n a bull's a__ at fly time! When you reboot the computer, you will be confronted by a dialog box telling you that you are locked out of the computer. The message will contain instructions as to where to send money and how. Generally they require BitCoin. Most often there is a time limit.
I receive calls from these guys about five times a week.
Sometimes I play with them, dragging out the call given them the idea that I am falling for their line. When I get tired of screwing with them, I just let loose with a line of epithets referring to their family history and then hang up.
AGAIN, be very careful with them, and for Lord's sake, DON'T EVER GIVE THEM ACCESS TO YOUR SYSTEM!
