I'm assuming it was an advertisement, because it included a link to a bit.ly short code link. Safari on my mac and anti-malware software confirmed site pointed to suspected phishing site. I did not investigate further.
Text message as follows:

Mobile last minute G_I_F_T card.
Here it is OCTOBER 2012 and this is STILL GOING ON "from" this number "410-000-0003"! Is this number being SPOOFED or is there a PRANKSTER OUT THERE and WHERE are they getting OUR numbers from?
This is a little weird because my text was VERY SPECIFIC to the area I live in. It reads:
[underline:] "FRM:18002206956@txt.att.net [end underline] MSG:Your Berkshire Bank card has been blocked.Call [sic] free:[underlined:]1-845-477-3001[end underline] and follow instructions to resolve this issue."
BUT THEN after the message it reads "From:14100000003" which is number recorded by the cell tower as having called.
While this (410-000-0003) COULD be a SPOOFED NUMBER, the other numbers could be 'real' and where law enforcement could catch up with the CRIMINALS.
By The Way, the "845" AREA CODE is **NOT** TOLL FREE: it is in the WESTCHESTER COUNTY area NEAR NYC.
There IS a "BERKSHIRE BANK" in our area, and we DO have accounts with them, But we DO NOT have a 'CARD" with them.
THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AND CLEARLY A PHISHING SCAM for all their customers in BERKSHIRE COUNTY in hopes of TRICKING/FOOLING someone into giving our their CREDIT CARD NUMBER to these CRIMINALS.
"Free" gift cards to their stores.
