I've gotten 5 texts from them in the last 24 hours. I'm pissed. Mine says: "Abigale Aucoin says: Congrats *My name*, Limited offers just gave you $1000 towards any Best-Buy products! Must visit rewardgiftcards.info before Oct 19th to confirm!
Same message as everyone else using my first name only: "August rewards just gave you $1000 towards any Best-Buy products...Must visit rewardgiftcards.info before Oct 19th to confirm!"
Does this stem from Facebook? Twitter? Is there a common thread that we all use?

Seen from the website:
Text Messaging: Respond to a message with !LEAVE
Web: Enter the chat and click Leave Conversation.
Android: Hold your finger on the conversation and then select leave.
iPhone: Swipe your finger on the conversation
You can also text STOP to 41414 at anytime to opt out of Brightkite completely.

I recently obtained a Gmail account. That's the only place I've given out my phone number in 5 months. I haven't even logged on for the first time. So it couldn't be PHISING, right?

What do we do if those big entities just casually abuse our trust?
Annabella Surles also sent me a text message at 4:18 AM using my first name and stating that "August Rewards just gave you $999.99 towards any Best Buy products" and instructed me to visit rewardgiftcards before October 20 and to "reply to chat."
Laurel Baptist Says:
Congrats ********* , Limited offers just gave you $1000 towards any Best-Buy products! Must visit rewardgiftcards.info before Oct (1 of 2)

I found this on the rewardgiftcard website privacy statement:
