Credit card interest rate reduction service
Phone call started with recorded message stating that they were Card Member Services and the call was in response to a letter I received or will receive shortly increasing the interest rate on my credit cards. They are offering a reduction in the interest rate; you press 9 to talk to an operator. The live operator (Mike) asked me if I was calling to reduce my interest rate and I said yes. He said that he needed to ask me for some personal information to verify my identity. I interrupted him and asked which credit card company he was calling from. I had to ask several times before he stated that their company (Interstate Management) works with 600 financial institutions and I was being offered a 3% lifetime interest rate because of my excellent payment history. I asked him why my credit card company wasn't offering me this interest rate directly and he stated that they cannot; it must be done through their company because they have an agreement with them. I terminated the call.
