I’m Yasmeen Bankole, a lifelong resident of Illinois, the daughter of immigrants, and today I’m announcing that I’m the Democrat for Congress in Illinois’ 8th district.

That’s me in the photo, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with my neighbors who are fed up with leaders that aren’t willing to stand up against the MAGA attacks on our communities.

As a local elected official, I fought for an assault weapons sales ban and continue to advocate for gun safety laws. So I know what we can accomplish when we fight for it, and unlike some Democrats, I’m not backing down from the fight.

And we need fighters more than ever, because here’s the reality: The Trump Administration is making it harder than ever to serve the people of our district.
