This is not spam. This is the short code that Twitter has registered with each Mobile Wireless Operator, if you signed up for Twitter then you must have enabled this in your Twitter account. create a text message with only the word STOP in the text and send it to the 40404 number. Btwy you can do this to any short code number. You should receive a text message back indicate that you have been removed and all text message should stop.

Thanks for the first message, Anonymous. Out of the blue Twitter decided to send me dozens of tweet notifications and I had only used my cell once years ago to verify my twitter account. Never linked my phone for notifications in past. I replied with "stop" text and twittter shut the texts off.
