Oh sometimes you just need to mess with these folks. First of all, I am a paralegal in a law firm, and I used to work in bankruptcy. Second, my dad is retired FBI.
I applied for a payday loan, and then decided that I did not like the rates and so I called to cancel it before it was deposited. I just opened a new bank account, and had never had a payday loan on it. Furthermore, I have not had a payday loan in about 3 years, and paid the last one I took off.
So "Officer Brian Solis" calls me and states that there is a very serious criminal investigation going on against my name and social security number, and could I verify the last four of my social as XXXX? I have had a few of these, so I decided to mess with them and said no, I would not give that information out, but would definitely like to know more about this criminal action. I was given a "federal" case number, and asked to hold while I was transferred to a "deputy".
"Officer John Harris" asked me to listen to what he had to say to me, and informed me that I would have five federal criminal charges leveled against me because it had been determined that I was a "habitual" abuser of payday loans and not paying them back. If I did not respond to this by 2:30 this afternoon, they would take the paperwork down to the federal court in my state and file the charges. I asked him when it was that this payday loan was taken out, and he said he did not have that information.
So then I said listen to me carefully...this bank account has only been open a short time and has never had a payday loan in it. I work in a law firm, and my father is retired FBI. If you call me again, I will track your ass down and sue you for all you are worth. You picked the wrong woman to fuck with.
And I hung up.
I will be filing something with the attorney general's office in my state, and am going to research on the federal level as well.
Don't let these SOB's fool you. It's a scam.
