They called my office line today from 442-243-5464, a southern California area code. It was an American man with an “I’m a serious businessman” tone of voice claiming to be from the National Patrolman's Foundation. He made a vague reference to being members of some made-up entity with a name that’s supposed to sound reminiscent of the FTC’s Do Not Call Registry that supposedly authorizes nonprofits to access telephone numbers and solicit donations by phone. Said he’d mail me a pre-stamped donation form if he could have my commitment to send it back with a specific $ amount. (Presumably if I said yes, he’d ask for my address and offer to take my credit card number to make a donation over phone. I said he must have the wrong number since he called an office building and then he hung up on ME before I had a chance to hang up on HIM! I think the number was spoofed because the connection was noisy, but they were different noises than usual.
